Characteristics

Dual-phase microstructure benefits

Nauticalloy 4462 exhibits a balanced dual-phase microstructure comprising approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite phases. This metallurgical structure delivers significantly higher strength than conventional austenitic grades whilst maintaining excellent corrosion resistance and toughness.

Enhanced corrosion performance

The duplex microstructure provides exceptional resistance to localised corrosion phenomena including pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. The material demonstrates excellent resistance to corrosive media including calcium, lithium and sodium chloride solutions commonly encountered in marine environments.

Superior strength-to-weight characteristics

The combination of austenitic and ferritic properties delivers improved mechanical performance compared to standard austenitic grades, enabling optimised shaft diameter specifications and reduced overall system weight.

Excellent fabrication properties

Despite enhanced strength, Nauticalloy 4462 maintains excellent weldability, formability and machinability properties essential for precision marine component manufacturing.

SuperYacht 107mMarine applications and benefits

Nauticalloy 4462 finds extensive application in marine propeller shaft systems, where its combination of strength and corrosion resistance ensures reliable performance throughout extended service intervals in aggressive seawater environments.

The material's resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking makes it particularly suitable for offshore platform equipment, subsea components and marine infrastructure subjected to continuous saltwater exposure.

Applications extend across oil and gas marine operations, chemical processing marine equipment and pulp and paper marine transport systems.

The duplex microstructure enables specification for demanding applications including marine pump shafts, valve components, bolting systems and structural elements requiring enhanced strength and corrosion resistance.
