Processing of Nauticalloy Marine Propeller Shafts

At Millstock Stainless Limited we deliver Nauticalloy marine propeller shafts that consistently meet the standards of the international marine industry.

Our in-house precision centreless grinding facility enables the production of each Nauticalloy shaft to exacting specifications whilst maintaining the dimensional accuracy and surface quality essential for modern marine propulsion systems across commercial, naval and luxury yacht applications.

Bespoke precision manufacturing approach

Customised precision grinding solutions

Every Nauticalloy shaft undergoes precision grinding to order, ensuring attention to detail throughout the entire processing route from raw material selection through final inspection. This bespoke manufacturing approach ensures that each marine propeller shaft we produce is tailored to the dimensional, metallurgical and performance requirements of our marine industry clients.

Individual processing protocols

Each order follows individually developed processing parameters optimised for the specific grade, diameter, length and application requirements, ensuring consistent quality delivery whilst accommodating the diverse specifications encountered across international marine markets.

Manufacturing capabilities

Centreless precision grinding technology

Extended length capability: accommodation of shafts up to 15 metres in length, enabling single-piece solutions for large-scale installations whilst maintaining dimensional accuracy.

Multiple grinding station configuration

  • Machine 1 & 2: diameters from 5mm to 75mm (3/16 inch to 3 inches) and lengths from 500mm and 4000mm.
  • Machine 3: diameters from 25mm to 100mm (1 inch to 4 inches) and lengths from 1000mm to 6000mm.
  • Machine 4: diameters from 25mm to 120mm (1 inch to 4 3/4 inches) and lengths from 1000mm to 8000mm.
  • Machine 5: diameters from 50mm to 165mm (1 inch to 6 1/2 inches) and lengths from 1500mm to 12000mm.
  • Machine 6: diameters from 15mm to 220mm (5/8 inch to 8 5/8 inches) and lengths up to 15000mm.
  • Machine 7: diameters from 80mm to 350mm (3 1/8 inches to 14 inch) and lengths up to 15000mm

Straightening technology

Multi-capacity straightening facilities: equipped with 300-tonne, 80-tonne and 30-tonne hydraulic presses to ensure optimal shaft straightness across all diameter ranges whilst maintaining material integrity and surface quality.

Processing services

Cut-to-length precision services: marine propeller shaft material precisely cut to customer-specified length requirements with optimised end finishing for immediate installation or further processing.

Third-party inspection and certification: quality assurance through independent inspection services, mechanical testing and certification to maritime industry standards and classification society requirements.

Precision manufacturing standards

Standard tolerance specification: all Nauticalloy shafts are manufactured to h8 tolerance unless alternative specifications are agreed, ensuring consistent dimensional accuracy and optimal bearing compatibility across all marine applications.

Surface quality consistency: rigorous surface quality control throughout the grinding process ensures consistent finish characteristics essential for optimal bearing performance and extended service life.

Ready-to-install performance

Nauticalloy represents significantly more than standard bright ground bar stock. Each shaft is individually precision ground, straightened and prepared for immediate transformation into precision marine propeller shaft assemblies with minimal additional processing requirements.
